Target Information
Importin-4 is a protein encoded by the human IPO4 gene.
Functions as a nuclear transport receptor mediating import of nuclear localization signal (NLS)-containing cargo proteins.
Facilitates docking to the nuclear pore complex (NPC) via nucleoporin binding and translocation through the pore in a Ran-dependent manner.
At the nucleoplasmic side, Ran binding causes dissociation of the importin/substrate complex and re-export of importin to the cytoplasm.
