Description
Viva columns are based on a wide-pore material designed for optimal large-molecule separations. While many commercial wide-pore silicas meet the standard 300 Å mean pore size, most have broad distributions with significant pore volume below 150 Å, limiting surface area availability for large molecules. Viva columns feature a narrow pore size distribution, maximizing effective surface area for separation.
The Restek C8 is a conventional monomeric octylsilane column with a shorter alkyl chain, providing less hydrophobic retention and improved basic peak shape compared to traditional C18 phases. Suitable for a wide range of compounds from acidic to slightly basic.
