This antibody detects endogenous levels of total MUC7 protein.
Target Information
The MUC7 gene encodes a small salivary mucin involved in bacterial clearance in the oral cavity and aids in mastication, speech, and swallowing. The central domain contains tandem repeats of 23 amino acids. This antimicrobial glycoprotein exhibits antibacterial and antifungal activity. The most common allele contains six repeats, and certain alleles may be linked to asthma susceptibility. Alternatively spliced transcript variants with different 5′ UTRs but encoding the same protein have been identified.
