Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP) 또는 Amyloid beta precursor protein은 세포 표면 kinesin I 막 수용체로 작용하여 beta-secretase 및 presenilin 1의 축삭 수송을 매개합니다. APP는 신경돌기 성장, 신경세포 부착 및 축삭 형성에 중요합니다. APP는 100–140 kDa의 막관통 당단백질로, 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 이소폼으로 존재합니다. APP의 β- 및 γ-secretase 절단은 β-amyloid를 생성하며, 이는 노인성 플라크의 주요 성분으로 Alzheimer’s disease의 주요 병리학적 특징 중 하나입니다. APP의 비정상적인 조절과 처리 과정은 Down 증후군, 조기 발병 가족성 알츠하이머병, 뇌출혈 등과도 관련이 있습니다.
