ZBTB16 유전자는 Krueppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family에 속하며, 9개의 Kruppel-type zinc finger domain을 가지는 zinc finger transcription factor를 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 핵 내에 존재하며 세포 주기 진행 및 histone deacetylase와의 상호작용에 관여합니다. 해당 유전자의 비정상적인 재배열은 급성 전골수성 백혈병(Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia, APL)과 관련이 있습니다. 다양한 전사적 스플라이스 변형이 보고되었습니다.
