이 유전자는 ephrin 패밀리의 구성원을 암호화합니다. Ephrin 및 EPH 관련 수용체는 수용체 단백질-티로신 키나아제의 가장 큰 하위군으로, 특히 신경계 발달 및 적혈구 생성 과정에서 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
Ephrin은 구조 및 서열 관계에 따라 두 가지 클래스로 나뉩니다.
- Ephrin-A class: GPI 결합을 통해 세포막에 부착
- Ephrin-B class: 막관통 단백질
이 유전자는 EFNA 클래스 ephrin을 암호화하며, EPHA2, EPHA4, EPHA5, EPHA6, EPHA7 수용체에 결합합니다.
두 가지 전사체 변이가 확인되어 서로 다른 isoform을 생성합니다.
