ELOVL4 유전자는 지방산 생합성에 관여하는 ELO 계열 단백질을 암호화하는 막결합 단백질을 생성합니다. 망막의 광수용체 세포에서 발현되는 이 단백질의 돌연변이 및 결실은 Stargardt-like macular dystrophy (STGD3)와 autosomal dominant Stargardt-like macular dystrophy (ADMD), 즉 autosomal dominant atrophic macular degeneration과 관련이 있습니다.
