Target Information
The insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins (IGFBPs) are a family of homologous proteins that co-evolved with insulin-like growth factors (IGFs). They function as shuttle molecules for IGFs and regulate IGF signaling by influencing bioavailability, concentration, and distribution. IGFBPs also exhibit IGF-independent biological activities. Seven IGFBPs have been identified, each with distinct tissue distribution and regulatory properties. IGFBP5, secreted by myoblasts, plays a key role in muscle differentiation.
