Target Information
Tight junctions are specialized structures that enable cell-to-cell adhesion in epithelial or endothelial sheets, forming continuous seals and acting as barriers to solute and water passage through the paracellular space. Claudin 6 is an integral membrane protein and a member of the claudin family, contributing to tight junction strand formation. It also serves as one of the entry cofactors for hepatitis C virus. Gene methylation of Claudin 6 may be associated with esophageal tumorigenesis. The CLDN6 gene is located adjacent to CLDN9 on chromosome 16.
