Target Information
Asialo ganglio-N-tetraosylceramide (asialo-GM1) is a glycolipid found on human, mouse, rat, bovine, and hamster cells. Glycolipids are defined by specific transferases that modify the lipid and can serve as immune cell response targets. Auto-antibodies against these molecules have been identified, and they may act as co-receptors for pathogens.
Asialo-GM1 is expressed on NK cells and a subset of monocyte/macrophages in mouse spleen, as well as in rat and bovine brain, fetal liver, and immature thymocytes. Expression levels may increase with tumor progression.
