Specificity Comments:
Peripheral blood granulocytes are classified into neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils according to the staining characteristics of their cytoplasmic granules. Granule proteins are released by physiological or pharmacological stimuli and play important roles in immune responses.
Eosinophil major basic protein and eosinophil peroxidase (EPX) are specific to eosinophils. The AHE-1 clone recognizes human EPX and does not cross-react with other granule proteins such as eosinophil major basic protein, elastase, cathepsin G, esterase N, thrombin, plasmin, kallikrein, lactoferrin, or transferrin.
This monoclonal antibody stains only eosinophils and does not stain other peripheral blood cells (platelets, neutrophils, monocytes, lymphocytes, or red blood cells).
Human EPX can form a tetramer consisting of two light and two heavy chains. Other peroxidase family members include myeloperoxidase (MPO), lactoperoxidase (LPO), and thyroid peroxidase (TPO).
Target Information
EPX belongs to the peroxidase family, XPO subfamily.
Defects in EPX are associated with eosinophil peroxidase deficiency (EPD).
