Calcium Channel gamma-3는 전압의존성 칼슘 채널(VDCCs) 구성원으로, 뉴런이 세포 내 특정 영역에서 칼슘 신호를 조절할 수 있도록 합니다. N-Type VDCCs는 출생 전에도 존재하며, 신경세포 이동에 관여할 가능성이 있습니다. 대부분의 N-Type VDCCs 하위단위는 출생 후 발현되며, 해마의 특정 영역에서 시냅스 전달 형성에 중요합니다.
Calcium Channel gamma-3는 I형 막관통 AMPA 수용체 조절 단백질(TARP)로, AMPA 수용체의 이동 및 채널 개폐를 조절합니다. 또한 PMP-22/EMP/MP20 계열의 8개 단백질로 구성된 다양성 높은 하위 패밀리에 속합니다.
Calcium Channel gamma-3 유전자의 기능 이상은 소아기 결신발작(epilepsy)의 감수성 위치로 알려져 있습니다.
