Target Information
SNAP29 encodes a protein that is a member of the SNAP25 gene family, involved in multiple membrane trafficking steps. Two other members of this family, SNAP23 and SNAP25, bind syntaxin proteins and mediate synaptic vesicle docking and fusion to the plasma membrane. SNAP29 binds tightly to multiple syntaxins and localizes to intracellular membrane structures rather than the plasma membrane. Although mostly membrane-bound, a significant fraction is found free in the cytoplasm. Multiple polyadenylation sites have been noted for this gene.
