Target Information
Olfactory marker protein (OMP) is an abundant, 19-kDa, cytosolic protein almost exclusively expressed in mature, functioning olfactory neurons but not in precursor basal cells. The OMP gene and protein sequence are highly conserved among mouse, rat, and human. Its tissue-specific expression and knockout studies suggest OMP acts as a modulatory component of the odor detection and signal transduction cascade. It interacts with BEX1 and BEX2 and is uniquely associated with mature olfactory receptor neurons. Belongs to the olfactory marker protein family.
