- Specificity: Highly specific for mature olfactory neurons (including axon and terminals).
Target Information
Olfactory marker protein (OMP) is an abundant 19-kDa cytosolic protein almost exclusively expressed in mature, functioning olfactory neurons, but not in neural precursor basal cells.
The OMP gene structure and protein sequence are highly conserved among mouse, rat, and human.
Its tissue-specific expression and knockout studies indicate that OMP acts as a modulatory component in the odor detection/signal transduction cascade.
OMP interacts with BEX1 and BEX2 and is uniquely associated with mature olfactory receptor neurons.
Belongs to the olfactory marker protein family.
