Target Information
PGP9.5 (Protein Gene Product 9.5, also known as UCH-L1 or PARK5) is a neuron-specific protein distinct from neuron-specific enolase, with a molecular weight of approximately 27 kDa. It belongs to the ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase family (peptidase family C12) and possesses both hydrolase and ligase activities that generate ubiquitin monomers.
PGP9.5 is expressed in neurons and nerve fibers throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems, neuroendocrine cells, renal tubules, spermatogonia, Leydig cells, and ovarian tissues. Overexpression is associated with non-small cell lung cancer, while reduced expression correlates with Huntington and Alzheimer diseases. It serves as a useful neuronal marker in studies of neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease.
