Target Information
Cytokeratin 8 is a member of the type II keratin family located on the long arm of chromosome 12. Type I and II keratins heteropolymerize to form intermediate filaments in epithelial cells. Cytokeratin 8 typically dimerizes with keratin 18 to form filaments in simple epithelial cells. It contributes to cellular structural integrity, signal transduction, and differentiation. Mutations in this gene are associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis.
