Target Information
Cytochrome c oxidase is the terminal component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, catalyzing electron transfer from reduced cytochrome c to oxygen.
This complex consists of three catalytic subunits encoded by mitochondrial genes and multiple structural subunits encoded by nuclear genes.
Mitochondrially encoded subunits function in electron transfer, while nuclear-encoded subunits regulate and assemble the complex.
COX7A2 encodes polypeptide 2 (liver isoform) of subunit VIIa, found in muscle and non-muscle tissues, alongside polypeptide 1 (muscle isoform) and a related ubiquitous protein.
COX7A2 is predicted to enable electron transfer activity, participate in mitochondrial respirasome assembly, and regulate oxidative phosphorylation as part of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex IV.
