Target Information

RRP4 is a non-catalytic component of the RNA exosome complex, which exhibits 3’→5’ exoribonuclease activity and participates in numerous RNA processing and degradation events.
In the nucleus, the RNA exosome complex contributes to maturation of stable RNA species (rRNA, snRNA, snoRNA), elimination of RNA processing by-products, and degradation of defective mRNAs.
In the cytoplasm, it is involved in mRNA turnover, degradation of AU-rich element (ARE)-containing transcripts, and RNA surveillance to prevent translation of aberrant mRNAs.
The complex may also play roles in Ig class switch recombination (CSR) and somatic hypermutation (SHM).
