Target Information
The 20S proteasome is a protease complex responsible for cytosolic protein degradation and generation of peptide ligands for MHC class I molecules. Upon IFN-gamma stimulation, subunits LMP2, LMP7, and MECL-1 replace constitutive subunits to form immunoproteasomes, enhancing antigen processing and presentation. Variations in subunit composition can produce up to 36 proteasome subsets with distinct cleavage specificities.
