Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prxs consist of six members grouped into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx.
- Prx VI belongs to the 1-Cys subgroup, while other 2-Cys Prx isotypes exhibit thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity.
- Mammalian Prxs are 20–30 kDa in size and vary in localization:
- Prx I, II, and VI in cytosol
- Prx III in mitochondria
- Prx IV in ER and secretion
- Prx V distributed in peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol
