Target Information
Regulatory subunit of the condensin complex, required for conversion of interphase chromatin into mitotic-like condensed chromosomes. The condensin complex introduces positive supercoils into relaxed DNA and converts nicked DNA into positive knotted forms. May target the condensin complex to DNA via its C-terminal domain. Plays a role in resolving DNA catenanes between sister chromatids and in decatenation of non-centromeric ultrafine DNA bridges during anaphase. Essential in neurogenesis for accurate mitotic chromosome condensation in neuron stem cells, affecting neuron pool and cortex size.
