Target Information
BCLAF1 (BCL2-Associated Transcription Factor 1) is an intracellular, death-promoting transcriptional repressor that interacts with several members of the BCL2 family. It shows homology to the basic leucine zipper (bZIP) and MYB DNA binding domains.
In apoptotic cells, BCLAF1 localizes to dot-like structures throughout the nucleus and redistributes near the nuclear envelope. Overexpression induces apoptosis, which can be suppressed by co-expression of BCL2 proteins. Also known as BTF, it triggers a proapoptotic signal and is mainly expressed in skeletal muscles.
