Target Information
Transcriptional control is regulated in part by interactions between DNA-bound transcription factors such as Egr-1/NGFI-A and coregulatory proteins like NAB (NGFI-A-binding proteins). The conserved NAB proteins, NAB1 and NAB2, act as corepressors of EGF-1/NGFI-A. Both contain an N-terminal NAB conserved domain 1 (NCD1), required for NGFI-A binding, and a C-terminal NCD2 domain responsible for repressor function. NAB2 is mainly localized in the nucleus and may play a role in downregulating NGFI-A activity, as well as in controlling cell division, differentiation, and apoptosis. NAB2 has a predicted molecular mass of 56 kDa and is located on chromosome 12q13.3–14.1, a region rearranged in several solid tumors, lipomas, and liposarcomas.
