Target Information
Action potentials in vertebrate neurons are followed by an afterhyperpolarization (AHP) that may persist for several seconds and influence neuronal firing patterns. Each AHP component is kinetically distinct and mediated by different calcium-activated potassium channels.
The KCNN1-encoded protein is activated before membrane hyperpolarization and regulates neuronal excitability by contributing to the slow component of synaptic AHP. It forms a voltage-independent calcium-activated channel with three calmodulin-binding subunits and belongs to the KCNN family of potassium channels.
