Signal Peptide Peptidase는 전구 단백질에서 절단된 일부 시그널 펩타이드의 막내 절단을 촉매하여, ER 막으로부터 세포질로 단편을 방출하는 역할을 합니다.
이 효소는 MHC class I 시그널 펩타이드로부터 유래한 HLA-E 에피토프 생성을 위해 필요하며, 이식 거부 반응에도 관여할 수 있습니다.
또한 Hepatitis C virus core protein의 시그널 펩타이드 제거, PSEN1 및 XBP1 isoform 1의 막내 절단에도 관련되어 있습니다.
