Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the platelet-derived growth factor/vascular endothelial growth factor (PDGF/VEGF) family. It plays roles in angiogenesis and endothelial cell growth, and influences vascular permeability. This secreted protein undergoes complex proteolytic maturation, producing multiple processed forms that activate VEGFR-3 receptors. Only the fully processed form binds and activates VEGFR-2 receptors. It is structurally and functionally similar to vascular endothelial growth factor D.
