Target Information
This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). These RNA-binding proteins complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA) and influence pre-mRNA processing, metabolism, and transport.
hnRNP-K is located in the nucleoplasm and contains three KH domains that bind RNA, showing strong affinity to poly(C). It may play a role in cell cycle progression. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, though not all are fully characterized.
