EYA2 단백질은 단백질 인산화효소 및 전사 공동활성인자로 작용하며, SIX1 및 SIX2, SIX4, SIX5와 상호작용 가능. Histone H2AX의 Tyr-142를 탈인산화하여 DNA 복구 복합체(MDC1 포함) 유도에 기여. H2AX의 Tyr-142 인산화는 DNA 손상 반응에서 중요한 역할을 하며, EYA2의 기능은 발생 과정 중 전사 조절에도 관여. SIX1 및 DACH2와 함께 근육 발달에 필수적이며, EYA1과 기능적으로 중복됨.
