PINK1 (PTEN-induced putative kinase 1)는 세포 내 미토콘드리아 기능 이상으로부터 보호하는 역할을 하며, 자가 인산화 활성을 통해 미토콘드리아 관련 유전자에 작용합니다. PINK1의 키나아제 도메인은 이러한 보호 효과에 핵심적인 역할을 합니다. 미토콘드리아 단백질은 세포 에너지 조절과 스트레스 적응에 중요하며, 특히 뇌세포에서는 높은 에너지 요구를 충족하기 위해 필수적입니다. 뇌에서 미토콘드리아 구조나 기능이 손상되면 파킨슨병과 같은 신경퇴행성 질환이 유발될 수 있습니다.
