G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs), also known as seven transmembrane receptors, comprise a superfamily of proteins that mediate various stimulus-response pathways. These receptors convert extracellular signals into intracellular responses through G-protein activation and interact with molecules such as hormones and neurotransmitters.
GPR41 (FFAR3) is a 346-amino-acid, multi-pass membrane protein belonging to the G protein-coupled receptor family. It is highly expressed in adipose tissue and at lower levels throughout the body. GPR41 functions as a receptor for short-chain fatty acids, modulating intracellular calcium levels and inhibiting adenylyl cyclase.
