Target Information
Structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC) and non-SMC condensin proteins associate into complexes implicated in chromosome condensation. Proper segregation of replicated sister chromatids requires chromosome condensation prior to metaphase.
Condensin I complex: SMC2, SMC4, CAP-H, CAP-G, CAP-D2
Condensin II complex: SMC2, SMC4, CAP-G2, CAP-H2, CAP-D3
CAP-H2 (NCAPH2, kleisin beta isoform 2) is part of the non-SMC regulatory subcomplex that activates SMC ATPases and promotes mitosis-specific chromatin binding. Individual functions of each non-SMC protein remain to be determined.
