MRPS22 Polyclonal Antibody detects endogenous levels of MRPS22 protein.
Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and assist in mitochondrial protein synthesis. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein to rRNA ratio, unlike prokaryotic ribosomes where this ratio is reversed. Mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA. The proteins comprising the mitoribosome vary significantly among species, hindering recognition by sequence homology.
This gene encodes a 28S subunit protein absent in prokaryotic and fungal mitochondrial ribosomes. It lies telomeric of and is transcribed opposite to the forkhead box L2 gene. A pseudogene is located on chromosome Xq.
