Target Information
Antigen 85 proteins (FbpA, FbpB, FbpC) mediate the high affinity of mycobacteria for fibronectin, facilitating attachment of M. tuberculosis to murine alveolar macrophages. They maintain cell wall integrity by transferring mycolic acids to arabinogalactan and synthesizing alpha,alpha-trehalose dimycolate (TDM, cord factor). These proteins catalyze transfer of a mycoloyl residue from one molecule of alpha,alpha-trehalose monomycolate (TMM) to another TMM, forming TDM.
