Target Information
Alpha Tubulin is a component of a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta tubulin subunits. Each subunit (~55 kDa) forms the basic building block of microtubules, which are cylindrical filamentous structures present in almost all eukaryotic cells. Microtubules provide structural support, serve as intracellular transport tracks, and play a critical role in mitosis.
Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes are highly conserved among species. The alpha tubulin gene is highly similar to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene, and its expression is predominantly found in morphologically differentiated neurologic cells.
