Target Information
SNF1LK2 (QIK) is a serine/threonine kinase and a salt-inducible kinase belonging to the AMP-activated protein kinase family.
It negatively regulates CRE-binding protein (CREB) activity by phosphorylating the CREB-specific coactivator transducer of regulated CREB activity (TORC).
SIK2 participates in a signaling cascade that regulates expression and activity of insulin-induced genes PGC-1α and UCP-1 in brown adipocytes, impairment of which is linked to obesity and insulin resistance.
SIK2 is also reported as a key regulator for neuronal survival after ischemia, suppressing CREB-mediated gene expression after oxygen-glucose deprivation.
