Target Information

Arg3.1 (ARC) is a master regulator of synaptic plasticity that self-assembles into virion-like capsids encapsulating RNAs, mediating intercellular RNA transfer in the nervous system.
ARC protein is released from neurons via extracellular vesicles that transfer ARC mRNA into target cells, enabling activity-dependent translation.
It regulates synaptic plasticity by promoting AMPA receptor endocytosis, maintaining surface AMPAR levels, and contributing to neuronal homeostasis.
ARC acts as a mediator of activity-dependent synapse elimination, required for long-term potentiation (LTP), long-term depression (LTD), and memory formation.
Additionally, ARC is involved in immune regulation, expressed in skin-migratory dendritic cells, and influences T-cell activation through dendritic cell migration.
