Target Information

Galanin receptor type 2 (GalR2) is widely expressed in the brain and peripheral tissues, including small intestine, heart, kidney, and liver. High expression levels are observed in dorsal root ganglia, amygdala, and Purkinje neurons of the rat CNS.

G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) form one of the largest families of signaling molecules, characterized by seven transmembrane helices. They exist in active and inactive conformations and are regulated by ligand binding and downstream effectors. Negative regulation of GPCRs plays a crucial role in cellular physiology and is an important focus in pharmacological research. Notably, GPCR-targeted drugs such as Zyprexa (Eli Lilly) and Claritin (Schering-Plough) have achieved significant clinical and commercial success.
