Target Information
Huntingtin disease, a neurodegenerative disorder, is caused by the expansion of a polymorphic glutamine tract in huntingtin. The Huntingtin Interacting Protein 1 (HIP-1) functions as a proapoptotic, cargo-specific adaptor protein that may contribute to the pathogenesis of Huntingtin disease. It also plays roles in clathrin coat recruitment to lipid membranes and may influence tumorigenesis by supporting survival of precancerous and cancerous cells. HIP-1 expression is significantly associated with prostate and colon cancer metastasis, making it a potential prognostic marker for these cancers.
