Target Information
The FUS gene encodes a multifunctional protein component of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) complex. This complex participates in pre-mRNA splicing and export of processed mRNA to the cytoplasm. FUS belongs to the FET family of RNA-binding proteins involved in gene expression regulation, genomic integrity maintenance, and mRNA/microRNA processing. Alternative splicing yields multiple transcript variants. Mutations in this gene are associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis type 6.
