Target Information
MAP2K3 (MEK3) is a dual-specificity protein kinase involved in cellular signal transduction pathways and is necessary for glucose transporter expression. It phosphorylates and activates MAPK14/p38-MAPK. Activation can be induced by insulin, and RAS oncogene expression leads to accumulation of active MEK3, resulting in constitutive MAPK14 activation and oncogenic transformation of primary cells. Inhibition of MEK3 is implicated in the pathogenesis of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
