Target Information
NALP2 belongs to a family of cytoplasmic proteins involved in cell responses to apoptotic and inflammatory stimuli. Unlike NALP1, NALP2 contains a NACHT domain, leucine-rich repeat (LRR), and pyrin-containing domain (PYD). It interacts with ASC, CARD8, and caspase-1 to form an inflammasome with high proIL-1β processing activity. NALP2 functions as a modulator of NF-κB and procaspase-1 activation in macrophages and may act as an innate pathogen sensor similar to toll-like receptors (TLRs). Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
