Target Information
FGF18 is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. These proteins possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in various biological processes such as embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion.
FGF18 can induce neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells in vitro. Studies in mouse and chick indicate that FGF18 acts as a pleiotropic growth factor stimulating proliferation in multiple tissues, notably the liver and small intestine. Knockout studies in mice suggest its role in proliferation and differentiation of midline cerebellar structures.
