Beta Galactosidase antibody is an IgG fraction purified from monospecific antiserum by delipidation, salt fractionation, and ion-exchange chromatography, followed by extensive dialysis.
Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-Peroxidase, anti-Rabbit Serum, and purified or partially purified Beta Galactosidase (E.coli).
Cross-reactivity with Beta Galactosidase from other species may occur but has not been specifically determined.
Very low background staining has been reported in various assays.

Target Information

Beta Galactosidase encodes a glycosyl hydrolase 35 family enzyme. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants, one of which encodes a preproprotein processed to the mature lysosomal enzyme.
This enzyme hydrolyzes terminal beta-linked galactose residues from gangliosides and glycoconjugates.
Mutations in this gene are associated with GM1-gangliosidosis and Morquio B syndrome.
Diseases related to GLB1 include GM1-Gangliosidosis Type I and II.
