PPP1R8 유전자는 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 세 가지 이소폼을 암호화합니다.
두 가지 단백질 이소폼은 type 1 serine/threonine protein phosphatase의 특이적 억제제로 작용하며 RNA에 결합하지만 절단하지 않습니다.
세 번째 단백질 이소폼은 phosphatase 억제 기능이 없으며 E. coli의 RNase E와 유사한 single-strand endoribonuclease로서, 마그네슘을 필요로 하며 A+U-rich RNA 영역의 특정 부위를 절단합니다.
