Target Information
PLD6 is a cardiolipin hydrolase localized at the mitochondrial outer membrane, essential for mitochondrial fusion and the piRNA metabolic process. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of cardiolipin to form phosphatidate, promoting mitochondrial fusion. The generated phosphatidate also regulates piRNA metabolism by facilitating recruitment or activation of meiotic nuage (P granule) components, a key step in piRNA biogenesis. PLD6 is required during spermatogenesis to repress transposable elements through piRNA-mediated silencing mechanisms involving Piwi proteins and transposon methylation.
