Target Information
Fatty acid binding proteins (FABP) are small (approximately 13–14 kDa) intracellular proteins with a high degree of tissue specificity.
FABPs bind long-chain fatty acids and play an important role in intracellular lipid metabolism. There are at least six distinct FABP types, each with unique tissue expression.
Due to their small size, FABPs rapidly leak from damaged cells, increasing serum levels — making them sensitive markers for tissue damage.
Liver FABP is a particularly useful marker for hepatocyte lysis in vitro and for monitoring liver damage during and after transplantation.
