Target Information

This gene encodes a DNA-binding protein with high specificity for scaffold or matrix attachment region DNA elements (S/MAR DNA). It is thought to attach the base of chromatin loops to the nuclear matrix. Scaffold attachment factors are a subset of nuclear matrix proteins that bind to S/MAR. The encoded protein may serve as a molecular base for assembling a transcriptosome complex near actively transcribed genes. It regulates heat shock protein 27 transcription, acts as an estrogen receptor co-repressor, and is a candidate for breast tumorigenesis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
