Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White).
This transporter belongs to the MRP subfamily involved in multidrug resistance. It functions as a multispecific organic anion transporter with substrates including oxidized glutathione, cysteinyl leukotrienes, and activated aflatoxin B1.
Additionally, it transports glucuronides and sulfate conjugates of steroid hormones and bile salts. Alternative splicing by exon deletion produces several splice variants, all maintaining the original open reading frame.
