Target Information
Periostin (PN), also known as osteoblast-specific factor 2 (OSF-2), is a disulfide-linked protein originally identified in osteoblasts. It is a secreted protein that binds heparin and acts as a ligand for α(V)β(3) and α(V)β(5) integrins. Periostin functions as a cell adhesion molecule involved in osteoblast recruitment, spreading, and attachment. It is mainly expressed in gastrointestinal tract, aorta, stomach, placenta, uterus, and breast tissues, and is upregulated in epithelial ovarian tumors and breast cancer. Expression is induced by BMP2 and TGF-β1. The protein contains a signal sequence, cysteine-rich domain, four fasciclin-like repeats, and a C-terminal domain.
